Literally have money in hand. That's fine. I'll just wallow in my lack of additional unnecessary vehicles.

You want to know a large reason why I went with the Geo?
The owner was one of 2 people who actually replied to me. The other one replied to say that the car “wasn’t for sale right now”
Not a peep from the other 10 people I attempted to contact and give money to.

My best one was when I was first searching for a w123 and found a white manual one. I asked if the car was still available and got back:
car sold
CLUTCH ROCKS
I asked nothing about the clutch.

That seems more like it’s him, clutching his “ rocks” in a gesture to you.
That’s about my expectations of CL...

Ugh. I contacted a seller about an Isuzu pickup before I got the Cube, and got nothing. The ad stayed up for a month. It's maddening.

Did your enthusiasm scare them off? Is it worth attempting to contact them from a different number?

Did you try geo locating where the vehicle resides based on the pictures and do like 7 drive bys?

I’m still astonished I keep not having problems.
First one, t ext the guy, he suggests holding off on looking till he has title in hand. Little odd, but not that odd. He texts the day he has the title, we agree to meet the next day. We meet up, he’s completely professional, and definitely not a serial killer. Has all his shit together. Has all the paperwork. Not the Jeep for me, but, exactly as described and completely professional.
Second one, they didn’t include VIN or engine beyond ‘V8' so I email and ask “does this have the 4.7 or 5.7?” They email back about an hour later, “4.7. Let me know if you have any other questions. I can show any time after 4:30.”
Third one, they included the VIN and the engine, but no photos of the interior. Emailed again. They replied apologizing, saying they couldn’t figure out how to edit the CL post, and provided about 20 photos of the interior.
Why can’t at least one of these actually be worth buying?!

It's south of King so that's a bit far for a dry run. Further, photos were taken at an industrial park.

Thought about it, too late now. Day is over and I'm unavailable tomorrow and booked all week for work. Feh.

Crafty seller

Yeah basically saying, "Clutch is awesome and you were a total dick for asking the question," which he did not ask.

Leave it to CL sellers to not answer questions you ask, then give snarky responses to questions not asked...

I tried to buy a 1968 Mustang off CL a few years ago. I messaged a few times, and figured it must be sold. Ad went down a couple days later. A week after, ad went back up. Lather, rinse, repeat. Ad goes down. Week later, ad goes back up. Send more messages... Finally responds. I try to arrange a meeting time with the cash in my sweaty palm. No response. Tried a couple more times... Finally I sent a rather irate message about his lack of communication . He responded “ NEVER RECEIVED ANY MESSAGES FROM YOU. CAR SOLD YESTERDAY.”

“See honey, I’ve tried for a month and even dropped the price. No one has shown any interest. I guess I’ll have to keep it.”

Huh, I’ve only contacted... three people, but gotten good responses each time. Guess I’m lucky!

I’ve had better luck in the past, just not this time.

Wait. Someone listed a car on CL that wasn’t for sale?
![]() 12/02/2018 at 14:45 |

Yeah I’m just as confused as you are. My best guess is they decided not to sell after losing and didn’t take it down? They literally responded "sorry it's not for sale right now" while the ad was still up.
